GRADING INFO

what to expect

Here’s a guide to what to expect and how to prepare for pregrading and grading day.

If you have attended circa the required lessons by grading day (10th Kups circa 12 lessons) and can demonstrate your grading syllabus and theory, you are welcome to attend the pre-grading.

Please note pregrading is not a lesson. I suggest 10th Kup’s watch the grading video here. All other patterns and step sparring is on my youtube channel to see what is required.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Prior to Grading

You will need a white dobok. These can be purchased from our shop. Please buy one according to your height. The white dobok is a top and trouser set. The black training trousers can be bought from the shop too.

The colour belt syllabus book has all the information you need to prepare for your grading. It is packed with information – line work and Korean theory with pictures of the moves and chambers. This can also be purchased from the shop.

On grading day you will be asked theory questions relevant to your grading.

Pre-grading

Wear club training wear – Black training trousers and club t-shirt or white dobok and your belt. Make sure to tie long hair back, no jewellery or watches.

Arrive at least 15 minutes before the pre-grading.

10th Kups will go in at the same time. The pre-grading is a pre-run to the grading. Treat this like a grading – put in focus, power, great attitude and do your very best.

If you have passed, Mr Overy will let you know.

Grading

Wear the A.O. white Dobok and belt or the white Dobok top and black training trousers. Make sure to tie long hair back, no jewellery or watches. Bring a bottle of water and some snacks on grading day. All belongings need to be placed in the hallway or in a designated space/room.

On grading day you will be asked some theory questions. The answers can be found in the colour belt syllabus book, which can be purchased from the shop.

Grading day will be on a Saturday. Everyone will come into the hall for a debrief and a group warm up. Then please wait in the corridor or designated room until you’re called in.

All results, new belts and grading awards will be given out at the end of the colour belt grading. Please make sure you stay for the whole duration.
